confidence in one's own abilities or character.

Starting a new venture can be intimidating, especially when it seems like you have no idea what you're doing. If your anything like me I haven't always been the most confident (I know, hard to believe), I've always doubted myself and was my own kryptonite but over the last couple years I've learned the key to success in anything and its to be your own number one fan.

One of the things I hate hearing from people is the lack of self confidence and assurance in their capabilities. Don't be that entrepreneur that fails in you scope of work before it even begins. Its amazing the shift in success when you are your number one fan.

The best love you could EVER experience

The day of love is approaching and whether your single, married, or its just plain complicated you're expecting something. You're expecting to walk into work with chocolates and flowers placed on your desk or just the opposite, you might be expecting to feel disappointed and alone.  Unfortunately, many people find themselves disappointed and lonely this day because they lack the most fulfilling relationship a man or woman can have.

The best and most important relationship to me is my relationship with Christ. It's a love that never fails, it's a forgiving love, it's a love that breaks down the walls of depression ,and its incomparable and falls short to none. Although i'm in a committed relationship with Chris, the only way I'm able to sincerely love him and myself is by the way Jesus loves me. We all have a longing for love in our hearts, its a void that can't be filled by a husband, parent, or friend but only through God's never ending love. We can try to replace the longing for Christ with earthly relationships or possessions but it will never come close to what God can provide. I encourage whoever is reading this to dig into the word and absorb what God says about us, its the ultimate love story that never ends in heartbreak.

4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful;[a] 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away.
— 1 Corinthians 13:4-13
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life
— John 3:16

Self Check

Everyone has heard the saying, "Comparison is the thief of joy" but we don't grasp the true depth of it until it relates to our personal circumstance. As women (well at least for most) we seem to be masters of comparing, it almost comes natural. Its the act of comparing two or more items to establish similarities and differences which can drive a girl crazy with insecurity.

The presence of one woman’s beauty or success is NOT the lack of your own

For the longest I couldn't figure out why I was uncomfortable with giving genuine compliments to other women or why someone else giving a compliment to someone other than me also made me uncomfortable ,but its because I was comparing them to myself.  It didn't click that I wasn't always the only attractive one in the room and that someone elses outfit could be just as cute. Of course I wasn't writing down a pros and cons list and comparing the two but the thought of someone out shining me took me to a dark place.

After finally becoming comfortable in my own skin I understand no one can steal my shine but me. I want to encourage all you beautiful ladies out there to admire each other, to not see one another as competitors but teammates. As women we have so much against us already why not push through the odds together?

When you don't reach your goals

As I reflect on the past year the number one question I was asked was “what are you up to Iman?” and if I can be honest I hated that question. I didn’t hate the question because I had no response but because it wasn’t the response I wanted to give. If 2016 Iman was responding to the question the sassy response would be “Oh, nothing just being fabulous while finishing school to be on track to graduate in December of 2017”. Fast-forward to now, 2017 Iman would say “Oh, nothing just trying to figure out my place in life” and no, I didn’t graduate but that’s the point.

In 2016, I set goals for myself that were achievable but they just weren’t what God had for me. Life changed in what seemed a second and everything shifted. My plans, my goals, and everything I wanted for myself (which was disappointing to say the least). I prayed consistently for understanding and guidance but it seemed like God stopped listening & definitely wasn’t responding. I watched people walk the stage without me and achieve the goals I set the prior year and it broke me.

In what seemed like brokenness I dwelled on the understanding that whatever God has for me is for me and WILL come to pass (this didn’t happen overnight btw). I had to realize that I can set as many goals for myself but if they aren’t in God’s will for my life it won’t happen in my time but in his. So with that being said I have no idea when I’ll be graduating but I know that it will be in the right time, God’s time.

As we are approach the new year I encourage y’all to still make your goals and set challenges for yourselves but also know if December of 2018 rolls around and your goals aren’t met know that God’s timing is better than whatever we can plan for ourselves.
